BAKFlip Revolver X2 Tonneau Cover

★★★★★4.8· thousands of reviews

We built the BAKFlip Revolver X2 for truck owners who need both lockable security and quick bed access. The X2 gives you aluminum-panel durability with roll-up convenience — no other tonneau cover in our lineup offers this dual-function design. Four linked panels lock flat for weather protection, or roll open in seconds when you're loading cargo that won't fit under a rigid cover.

Our X2 sits flush with the bed rails when closed, creating a low-profile seal that protects gear from rain and road spray. The powder-coated aluminum panels resist dents and UV fade, while the reinforced vinyl hinge between each section flexes thousands of times without cracking. We use automatic buckle latches at the tailgate — push to lock, pull to release — so you can secure the cover one-handed even with gloves on.

Panel construction & hinge system

Each panel on the bakflip revolver x2 measures just over an inch thick, with an internal honeycomb aluminum core that distributes weight without adding bulk. We coat every panel in textured black powder for scratch resistance — the finish holds up under toolbox scuffs and cargo tie-downs better than painted steel alternatives.

The hinge between panels uses a double-layer vinyl reinforced with fabric backing. This hinge flexes smoothly whether the cover is 20°F or 110°F, and we tension it to roll the panels evenly without sagging in the center. When you roll the X2 open, the panels stack neatly behind the cab and lock in place with a spring-loaded strap, keeping them secure even on rough roads.

Installation & bed rail fit
Sizing & fit

Installation & bed rail fit

We designed the X2 rail system to clamp directly onto your truck’s bed rails without drilling. The rails are extruded aluminum with a matte finish that matches factory bed caps on Ford, Chevy, Ram, Toyota, and Nissan models. Installation takes about 30 minutes with basic hand tools — position the rails, tighten the clamps, then drop the cover panels into the rail channel.

The rail channel uses a slide-lock system, so you can remove the entire cover in under a minute when you need the bed completely open for a weekend project. The Revolver X2 series fits beds from 5.5 feet to 8 feet, and we include rail extensions for non-standard bed widths. Once installed, the cover sits flush with the rails — no gaps for water to seep through, and no raised profile to catch wind noise at highway speed.

Locking mechanism & security

Tailgate latches

The X2 locks at two points on the tailgate using our automatic buckle design. Push the buckle down until it clicks, and the cover is secured — no separate latch to fumble with in the dark. To open, pull the release strap and the buckles pop free. These latches work with your truck’s factory tailgate lock, so when the tailgate is locked, the cover can’t be opened from outside.

Bed rail security

When the panels are locked flat, they’re held in place by the rail clamps and the tailgate latches together — there’s no way to lift a panel from the side without opening the tailgate first. We use stainless steel hardware throughout the latch system to prevent rust in salt spray or coastal climates. The cover won’t stop a determined thief with power tools, but it keeps casual theft and weather out reliably.

Holds up to daily contractor abuse
I've had the X2 on my F-250 for two years now, loading lumber and tools every week. The panels still lock tight and the hinges haven't stretched. I roll it open for plywood runs and it stays put even on the highway. Way better than the soft cover I had before.

Perfect for switching between gear and motorcycles
I needed a cover that could lock my camping gear during the week and roll open for my dirt bike on weekends. The X2 does both without any hassle. Install was straightforward, and I like that I can take the whole thing off in under two minutes when I need to.

Great seal, minor wind noise at 70+ mph
The cover keeps rain out completely — I've driven through some serious storms and the bed stays dry. I do hear a little whistle at highway speeds, but it's not loud enough to bother me. The one-hand latches are a nice touch when I'm juggling groceries.

Flush fit looks factory-installed
I was worried the cover would sit too high or look bulky, but it sits perfectly flush with the bed rails on my Silverado. The matte finish matches my truck's black trim exactly. Neighbors keep asking if it came with the truck from the dealer.

Handles snow and ice without issues
We get heavy snow here in Montana, and the X2 has handled everything winter throws at it. The panels don't bow under snow weight, and I can still roll it open even when it's cold. The hinges haven't cracked or gotten stiff like my old vinyl cover did.

Easy to clean and maintain
I hose the cover off every couple weeks and it looks brand new. The powder coat doesn't hold onto dirt, and the hinges don't collect grime. I haven't had to do any maintenance beyond a quick wipe-down — it just works.

Good to know

Common questions about the BAKFlip Revolver X2

No, the X2 latches lock at the tailgate, so you need to drop the tailgate first before you can release the buckles and roll the cover open. This design keeps the cover secure when the tailgate is locked. Once the tailgate is down, the cover rolls open smoothly in either direction.

The X2 clamps directly onto most factory bed rails and works fine with plastic bed rail caps. If you have an over-rail bed liner, you may need to remove the liner's rail caps so the X2 clamps can grip the metal rail underneath. Drop-in bed liners and spray-in liners don't interfere with installation at all.

We rate the bakflip revolver x2 for 300 pounds of evenly distributed weight when the panels are locked in the flat position. That's enough to support a roof-top tent or cargo box if you add crossbars, but we don't recommend standing or kneeling on the cover — concentrated weight in one spot can dent the aluminum panels over time.

Yes, the X2 works with most fifth-wheel and gooseneck hitches as long as the hitch sits below the bed rail line when not in use. You can roll the cover partially or fully open to access the hitch, and when the cover is closed it won't interfere with a flush-mount hitch. If you have a raised hitch that sits above the rails, you'll need to check clearance before ordering.

Yes, the X2 handles touchless and brush car washes without any issues. Make sure the cover is locked at the tailgate before you enter the wash, and the seals will keep water out. We've tested the cover in commercial washes hundreds of times and the panels and hinges hold up fine. Just avoid high-pressure wands aimed directly at the hinge seams.

We back the BAKFlip Revolver X2 with a three-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. That includes the aluminum panels, hinges, rails, and latch hardware. The warranty doesn't cover damage from accidents, improper installation, or modifications, but we'll replace any part that fails due to a manufacturing defect within the three-year window.

Unlock the cover at the tailgate, then lift the front edge of the first panel and pull it toward the tailgate to slide the entire cover out of the rail channels. It takes about 30 seconds once you've done it a few times. The whole cover weighs around 70 pounds, so it's easier with a second person, but one person can manage it. To reinstall, just slide the cover back into the rails and lock it down.
