BAK Revolver X4s Tonneau Cover

★★★★★4.8· thousands of reviews

We engineered the BAK Revolver bed cover to give you instant access without sacrificing security. The aluminum slat design rolls forward or retracts completely in seconds, so you can toss in tall cargo, lock down smaller items, or leave the bed wide open — all without removing a single panel.

Every X4s ships with our dual-action seal system and automatic latching. Rain, dust, and road spray stay out while your gear stays dry. When you need full bed access, the cover rolls up tight against the cab and locks in place, giving you the entire bed length for lumber, kayaks, or anything that won't fit under a hard fold.

Aluminum slat construction and weather sealing

Each slat uses extruded aluminum with a powder-coat finish that handles UV, gravel, and salt spray season after season. We chose aluminum over vinyl because it holds its shape in heat, doesn’t crack in cold, and rebounds from minor impacts without creasing.

The dual-action seal runs along both side rails and wraps around the tailgate edge. Neoprene foam compresses against the bed rail when you latch the cover, blocking wind-driven rain and keeping dust out of bed corners. In heavy weather, water beads off the slat surface and channels toward the tailgate rather than pooling on top.

Roll-up operation and bed access

Instant retraction for tall cargo

You release two rotary latches at the tailgate, grab the front edge, and roll the cover forward in one smooth motion. The entire operation takes about eight seconds. Slats roll into a compact canister that sits against the cab, leaving the full bed length open for plywood sheets, a motorcycle ramp, or a ladder rack.

When you’re done loading, pull the cover back toward the tailgate and press down. The latches engage automatically as the cover seats against the seal — no fumbling with separate locking pins or alignment tabs. If you only need partial access, you can stop the cover mid-roll and it’ll hold position without creeping forward.

Installation and bed rail compatibility

Our clamp-on rail system mounts inside the bed without drilling. You position the side rails along the top edge of your bed walls, tighten four clamps per rail with a socket wrench, and the rails grip the bed lip. The whole install takes about twenty minutes if you work alone, fifteen if you have a second person to hold the rails level.

The rails sit low enough that most stake pocket accessories — tie-down anchors, bed dividers, toolbox mounts — still fit underneath. If you run a fifth-wheel hitch or gooseneck, check clearance before ordering; the rolled-up canister sits about five inches behind the cab and may interfere with certain hitch models.

Rolls up in seconds when I need it
I haul sheet goods twice a month and used to wrestle with a tri-fold. Now I just unlatch and roll the whole thing forward in about ten seconds. It stays put once I lock it back down, and my tools haven't gotten wet even in heavy rain.

Install was faster than I expected
I'm not especially handy, but the clamp system made sense and I had it mounted in about twenty minutes. No drilling felt like a big win. The cover sits low enough that my bed-mounted bike rack still clears it without any spacers.

Great seal even on rough roads
I drive gravel every day for work, and dust used to coat everything in my bed. Since installing the X4s, my equipment stays clean. The seal along the rails actually works — I checked after a rain storm and the bed was bone dry.

Solid build, one minor hitch clearance note
The cover itself is excellent — aluminum feels sturdy and the roll-up action is smooth. Just be aware that the canister sits about five inches from the cab, so if you run a short-bed gooseneck like I do, double-check your clearance before buying.

Looks factory and handles weather well
I wanted something low-profile that wouldn't scream aftermarket, and the matte black finish matches my bed rails perfectly. We've had two big storms since I installed it, and I haven't seen a drop of water get past the seal.

Easy to use with one hand once you get the hang of it
The first couple times I rolled it up I used both hands, but now I can do it one-handed if I'm carrying something. The latches lock automatically when I pull it closed, which is way better than my old cover that had separate clips to snap down.

Good to know

Common questions about your BAK Revolver bed cover

Yes, the clamp-on rails sit on top of the bed lip and clear most spray-in liners. If your liner extends above the bed rail edge, you may need to trim a narrow strip along the top for a flush rail fit. The installation guide shows the exact clearance needed and where to cut if necessary.

One person can install the X4s, though a second set of hands makes it easier to hold the rails level while you tighten the clamps. The entire process takes about twenty minutes with basic hand tools — a socket wrench and an adjustable wrench are all you need. No drilling or permanent modifications are required.

When rolled up, the canister sits approximately five inches behind the cab. Most fifth-wheel hitches clear this distance, but short-bed gooseneck setups may have tight clearance depending on hitch height and pin box length. Measure your hitch-to-cab distance before ordering if you run a gooseneck in a short bed.

The rotary latches at the tailgate use the same key as your truck's tailgate lock. You insert the key, turn it to unlock the latches, then roll the cover open. When you close the cover, the latches engage automatically and you turn the key to lock them. This keeps your cover and bed secured together without needing a separate key.

You can roll the cover completely forward and latch it against the cab, giving you full bed length for tall cargo like a motorcycle, kayaks, or stacked lumber. The rolled-up canister is about twelve inches in diameter and locks in place, so it won't unroll while you're driving. When you're done hauling tall items, just pull the cover back and latch it at the tailgate.

Yes, the flush-mount design smooths airflow over the bed and eliminates the turbulence you get with an open cavity. Most drivers notice quieter highway cruising and less whistling at speed. The matte finish also cuts down on glare in your rearview mirror during sunny drives.

Most stake pocket accessories fit normally because the side rails sit low inside the bed walls. Tie-down anchors, bed dividers, and similar hardware usually clear the rails without interference. If you use tall stake pocket mounts, measure their height to confirm they won't contact the underside of the cover when latched.
